Paladins: Champions of the Realm

Paladins is an online game that is completely free to play. Taking place in the fantasy world of The Realm, players are thrown headfirst into a conflict between the Magistrate and the Resistance/Paladins. The reason for the bad blood is the Magistrate wish to control magic in The Realm, restricting its use only to its own members. The Paladins, however, believe that magic should be free for everybody to use so long as it is used for good. In the game, which is a classic first-person shooter, players choose a game and their own ‘Champion’ who they fight as to achieve their goals, either for the Paladins or the Magistrate.

Star Wars: The Old Republic

Fortnite

Fortnite is essentially the biggest game out there that’s still, remarkably, for free. Epic Games’ iconic Battle Royale is free to play on most platforms. Fortnite’s a classic survival game which sees 100 players fight against each other to see who’s the last one standing. Strangely, Fortnite has become somewhat of a social hub for musical performances, trailer debuts, and virtual hangouts for people all over the world.

Runescape

This list wouldn’t be complete without a mention of Runescape at the very least. First brought into being in January 2001 by the geniuses at Jagex, Runescape has had over 200 million accounts created and is even recognized by the Guinness World Records as the world’s biggest and most frequently updated free MMORPG. Runescape allows players to create their own character and have complete autonomy over their character. Players choose their own path and fate in the game’s huge world of Gielinor and go about completing quests, fighting monsters, training skills, and socializing with other real-life players. Love it or loathe it, Runescape has already cemented itself as a true gem in the history books of online gaming.
